Project Restoration

Project Restoration is the name of Jackson Park Ministries’ rehabilitation of seven multi-family apartment buildings which will expand the Ministry’s Transformational Housing Program to provide housing for up to thirty-nine families while they undergo one year of intensive training and counseling in spiritual, financial and family areas of their lives. The Ministry currently is serving eight families in this unique, life changing ministry. Since 1998, the Transformational Housing Ministry of Jackson Park has served more than 100 families.

Jackson Park Ministries Restoration Project

The buildings being renovated were originally built in the early 1940s as Army Air Corps barracks and part of Morris Field, a World War II military installation that later became the Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the North Carolina Air National Guard Base.

In 2004, Jackson Park Ministries learned that seven of these buildings were slated for demolition by the City of Charlotte and appealed to the Mayor and City Council to let the Ministry purchase the buildings and remodel them as part of its Transformational Housing Ministry and add to the four buildings already owned by Jackson Park. The City of Charlotte agreed.

Since 2004, volunteers from many local churches and denominations have stripped out old wood, wiring and plumbing in order to prepare the apartments for renovation. Currently, the Ministry has available eighteen units available for families with more becoming available next year.

Subject to financial, material and labor support received from churches, businesses and individuals, the goal is to complete renovation of the remaining six buildings by December, 2009. When the project is completed, Jackson Park’s Transformational Housing Ministry Program will be able to serve thirty-nine families.

We are asking churches, businesses, and individuals to join us in this very unique and important endeavor with their prayers, their financial support, material donations, and volunteer labor. It is only through the collective effort of these organizations and individuals that Project Restoration can become a reality.
